System Design & Engineering
All great systems start with a great design. Many dealers believe that
a system design is simply a list of parts that they have specified for a
particular project and possibly which rooms that equipment will be
installed. However a design is more than just a list of equipment.
A complete system design is a set of engineered plans that define every
connection for every piece of equipment, wire specifications of what type of
wire is used for each aspect of the system, location of devices and
requirements for other contractors so their equipment can connect to your
equipment. A complete system design is also the road map to which your
installation team will follow for specific directions to complete each
aspect of their jobs.
For many years too many dealers have allowed
their technicians "design" the system when they show up to the job site with
a truck full of equipment and maybe the original proposal with the pricing
blacked out. The technician then must figure out how he will make the
system work with the wires that have been pulled in the house. And
when the correct wiring is not in-place it is left up the the technicians to
"figure it out" which most of the time means that the system will not
operate the way that is should. Another difficult task for the
technicians is to figure out what features were actually sold and promised
to the client.
Not so surprising is the fact that when dealers are
asked what their biggest challenges that they face in running their
business, one of the top three answers is always - finding and keeping good
technicians.
We are a company that when we were dealers we believed
so much in complete system designs that our sales were all design based
sales. That means that we refused to do a proposal or bid for any
project that either already had a design (never happened) or one that we
created the design for the client, charged them for that design, gave them a
complete proposal with all drawings and told them they were free to get
other proposals based on the designs that we provided. Did we have
customers that refused to pay for designs, sure, but those were customers
that we did not want to do business with because they did not value our
expertise. Fortunately for us our competition was not as smart and
took on these profit loosing projects.
When we start a system design
and engineering project for one of our dealers, we work with them to
determine the level of design that they want for their project. We
work together to determine a design budget and also show them what their
profit should be on the system design. On larger projects, if the
dealer requests, we will work with the dealer and the client in any meetings
that are required - by a conference call or in person. During these
meetings we can either present ourselves as members of your staff or if you
wish we can present ourselves as your design consultant.
We want to
create a long term relationship with you to enable your company to produce
perfect systems with no headaches for you or your client. Feel free to
